Hey everybody… sorry I am just getting this blog going, but I have been incredibly busy with the day to day tasks of getting settled in China. Flashback (August 23, 2010): I am waiting in the air port terminal ready to board the plane that would begin my journey to the other side of the world as well as my new life. My mental state cannot be described as anything other than a huge swirling eddy of emotions; although, most of them are positive. As I prepared for this break of habit and status quo neither fear nor anxiety were every really issues, surprisingly enough, but all the same how do you describe the paradox of expecting the unexpected? When I finally arrive to the Shanghai, Pudong International airport, I have one goal à make it to the Swan Hotel where the Marshall program has prepared a room for me as well as an introduction to China. I need to take the number four airport bus and ride it to the last stop, Luxin Park. Luckily the bus information is clearly marked, and after a 45 minute jaw dropping ride featuring high-rises and construction and more high-rises and more construction we slow to a stop and I see the Swan Hotel. Halleluiah!
